Been in Grahamstown since Thursday, I gotta show love to these brothers over here. If there is a good example of individuals working together to promote the culture of hip hop, it's GTown. Shout out to San-Hedrin, Optic Nerve, Oz, Phelo, you guys are holding it down.

Just to let yall know about hip hop shows happening in the G on the 24th and the 31st of October. If you love hip hop make sure you support those shows. I'll post more details on those closer to the time.

Another, thing I wanna blow a smoke signal in your direction about the path the blog is gonna take in the future. Alot of cats have been me to show them the ins and outs of Reason, so by popular demand I'll be posting videos of hints and tips regulary.

INSPIRATION: Numb3rs & Alphab3ts

Inspiration is a collective of like-minded individuals who came together due to their common love for the art of hip hop. Moeti Damane known as San The Instrumonumentalist is a multi-talented and a multifaceted producer/mc who has been in the industry close on 10 years honing his skills in his home country of Lesotho. He came to South Africa to further his studies in economics and is currently doing his masters at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. It is here that he met like-minded individuals who excel and thrive on the beautiful art that is known as hiphop. It is through this love that he met his fellow partner in beat making Mark Sunners also known as Alias.

Mark has lived, schooled and worked in Grahamstown for the passed 14 years. Collectively they have produced an instrumental hiphop album called “Inspiration: Pieces of our broken mind” which received rave reviews and has garnered the collective a large following worldwide, and 2 mixtapes that go by the name Reinvention which garnered the talents of producers and mc’s locally and from all over the world which have also earned them an even larger following. San and Alias have created many soundscapes for artists covering 4 countries in Africa and 3 continents. This just proves that music and specifically hiphop is indeed a universal language.

Currently Inspiration is working on their much anticipated following to their very well received first offering. Their new project which is called “Inspiration: Numb3rs & Alphabets” is a new take on what an instrumental hiphop album should be, but you’ll have to get the album to experience its magic. Another multitalented local mc/producer known as Self from Krusch Enterprises has lent his unending talents and is executive producing the current project. Another genius mc/producer that is lending his well of talent and experience is the well-known Lesotho powerhouse known to the masses as Anonymous, representing Dimlite Productions. Well renowned mc/producer Lil’ Vic and producer Velotz from Orena Records in the USA have also contributed to this monumental project. With this team of extremely talented and passionate individuals, Inspiration’s current and future projects are set and bound to be classics.

SEAMROCK MUSIC

Taking a quick break from studying for exams, just to let you guys know about a group of brothers I've had a privilege to work with. Here's a quick bio from their facebook group SEAMROCKER MUSIC:

"Seamrock is a production/ beatmaking outfit based in Lesotho. Though most of its works are hip hop orientated, these guys draw influence from a broad array of genres and musical styles. The Clique consists of Makhobalo Lesaoana, Mathealira Kholopo, Thabo Letsie and Moeti Moleko, respectively working under the pseudonyms Boomslang, K-10, Aurakle and Cymtom. A brief history will show that this four year old team has scored collaborations with a gang of artist on the Lesotho music scene as well as a handful abroad. We believe that in this last days of time when almost every form of art has mutated, there is a need, among other things, to provide the masses with that good old orthodox boom bap music that we all fell in love with. We strive towards this and hope that one day our efforts will have contributed an essential part in the growth of local music and the perpetuation of a global hip hop consciousness."

Blast Off

Ok, right mow I know very few if anyone is gonna read this but what the hell. Welcome one and all to the home of Indie hip hop (self-proclaimed or not). My man SAN The Instrumentalist coined that phrase, so I gotta give a shout out to SANhedrin.

The whole premise of this website is to give the streets the low down on independent hip hop artists from Sub-Saharan Africa, but really from anywhere on the globe. Hopefully as the word spreads, we can start networking.

The word on the street at the moment is that Audilblebraile is releasing a number of projects which should be off the meat rack if their previous projects are anything to go by. Check out their new offering NUMB3RS & ALPHAB3TS which is dropping end of September 2009 and be sure I'll be posting links to that.

Just to get us off and poppin, here is an album for you heads to chew on for now. RE-INVENTION VOL 2 (an emcee's LP) http://www.mediafire.com/?wmxzzvtnlnm

Be sure I'll be surfing the net keepin a keen I out for new material and you can be sure to find it right here on The Show....
